A screwdriver buried under a pile of tools? A wrong imprint? Another one lost in the toolbox? Those days are over! Designed and developed by MOB, the ergonomic UNO holder is a small piece shaped like six red and white lobes that allows you to store and bundle six screwdrivers together. The goal? To easily carry them bundled together. Each screwdriver fits into an individual slot tailored precisely to its size, clearly marked with the correct dimension – it’s impossible to leave one behind at the job site. Three screwdrivers face one way, three the other — each in its place, secured by a locking system. And since the heads don’t stick out, accidents are avoided.
„When we visit users of our screwdrivers, we find that there’s nothing really reliable for transporting tools,” explains Sylvain Béal, R&D Manager at MOB. „Either the screwdrivers take up too much space in the toolboxes, or maintenance technicians struggle to squeeze them into already full pockets.” There was a real need to design a tool holder that is easy to carry, simple to use, and lightweight — one that doesn’t add, or adds very little weight to a technician’s tool kit. „On top of that, UNO fits perfectly with our company’s approach, as we at MOB have already developed holders for wrenches and ratchets,” adds Sylvain Béal.
The R&D team at our Chambon-Feugerolles (Loire) headquarters worked for months to create this ergonomic and user-friendly solution. After a development and prototyping phase, several rounds of testing followed. „We first carried out several internal usability tests. Then we tested under extreme conditions — cold, dirt, and grease. And to fine-tune the concept, we gave prototypes to users who provided feedback, which helped us improve the product,” reveals Sylvain Béal. These refinements included, for example, adding printed markings to clearly show where each screwdriver should be placed at first glance. „It’s a practical product that aligns with the company’s values, it’s innovative, and it’s the only solution of its kind on the market,” adds our R&D Manager.
Wherever they work, industrial maintenance technicians are the primary target for this MOB innovation. With UNO, they can now safely store all six of their screwdrivers. The shape of the holder provides perfect stability when the set is placed on a flat surface—no risk of it rolling or tipping over.
“MOB is well-established in the industrial maintenance field, so we have an in-depth understanding of the needs of these trades,” explains Sylvain Béal. “And since we also have machine tools at our own production sites, our maintenance staff were able to test UNO and offer valuable feedback during its development,” he adds. In other words, it’s been tested and approved by the pros!
A bit of technical detail to wrap it up? The UNO solution consists of two different sets of six screwdrivers and a central piece that allows them to be stored in a staggered pattern. The first UNO set includes 4 flathead screwdrivers (4×100, 5.5×125, 6.5×150, and 8×150 mm) + 2 Phillips® screwdrivers (n°1 and 2). The second set includes 4 flathead screwdrivers (4×100, 5.5×125, 6.5×150, and 8×150 mm) + 2 Pozidriv® screwdrivers (n°1 and 2).
